"Ah Joon Kaya Roti"

After much persuasion & encouragements from Annie, finally made the kaya last nite(i use curryman's recipe). We had kaya toast for breakfast this morning, plus half boiled eggs and teh-c, all home-made. Of course the children were happy. Dh brought some kaya and breads to work this morning. He has yet to comment about it.

Sushi Making at home....

Just couldn't believe that I could make my own sushi one day. Have to thanks Lee Lee for it, it's her credit. Beside showing me how to cook sushi rice the correct way, which is very important, she has showed me how the rice is being wrapped up and cut nicely.

K-Drama (Da-Chang-Jin Feast)

Dh is crazy about DCJ. If I'm not wrong, he watched the series at least 3 times. He is 'in love' with Lee Ying Ai (the lead actress). Not surprise, he chio his sisters to try out the DCJ set meal at Taka. We forked out S$60 per pax for the meal. Here showing few of the dishes.

Family Photo...

A family get-together over the weekend at Changi Village. A dinner at Thai Village followed by beer drinking at Friends' pub, our regular hang out place. 22 of us! Those with cars didn't drive cos they will be drinking. Drive, do not drink! or Drink, do not Drive! But for me, I drove. I don't drink but dh did, so I was the chaffeur for that nite!

Managed to snap a family photo (dh's family side). Here it is!

Ds 1st Baking Session....

Ds learning how to bake for the first time. With the help from Vic, his childhood friend, their bake was a success!

Here are the bakes:-

Oatmeal Cookies

This recipe was given by my sil. Oatmeal + raisins + nuts.... Woooo, just love it! I baked this quite often for my in-laws as they love munching these cookies along with their usual cup of kopi or teh-c.

Nasi Lemak for dinner.....

Attended a cooking class organised by ds's sch. The chef taught us how to cook Nasi Lemak rice, how to kill crabs and cook them in different ways, be it steaming, chilli or blackpepper! The last two dishes he taught were the boiled prawns and sauteed veg. The ready made chilli sauce and blackpepper sauce for cooking the crabs are supplied from his factory. His company is in the food manufacturing industry which produce all kinds of sauce. I got myself a few bottles at special price. My children loves to dip the fried mao-tou into the chillie crabs, is yummy! I've yet to try out the blackpepper one. Maybe pretty soon....

Fruit Tartlets & Egg Tartlets

Fruit Tartlets

Chocolate Tartlets (specially for younger ds)

Home made fruit tarlets are always the best. I love baking them for my family.

This simple fruit tartlet recipe is taken from a cookbook and I've modified slightly.

Base - Sweet Shortcrust Pastry
100g butter
160g plain flour
40g icing sugar
1 egg
a few drops of vanilla essence

1) Preheat oven to 180C.
2) Beat butter & sugar till well combined. Stir in egg and vanilla essence.
3) Add flour to egg mixture. Mix to a dough. Chill for 1 hour.
4) Roll dough thinly and cut into circles using a fluted round cutter.
5) Press pastry circles into tart tins.
6) Trim off excess pastry. Prick evenly with a fork.
8) Bake empty abt 15mins. Keep aside to cool.

2 tbsps custard powder
120 ml milk
60g granulated sugar (i reduce to 40g)

1) Cook custard powder, milk and sugar over low heat.
2) Stir till boils and thickens. Leave it to cool.
3) Spoon mixture into empty tarts.
4) Decorate with fruits and brush with apricot jam.

All time family favourites. Big Momma's Egg Tartlets. Thanks BM.

Younger days........

Time really flies......... my babies are now 11 and 13........ The 2nd photo was taken during their YWCA days, a childcare centre which 'house' them when i worked. I believe my children had had a memorable time during their 4 years at the centre. Brandon especially, loved the food cooked by the auntie, always asked for second helping, and Vic too! Haha, the 2 of them really eat a lot! Brandon and Victoria have been childhood friends for 13 years. Hope they maintain and treasure their good friendship.

Brandon & Bryan

Vic celebrating her Birthday at the centre. Next to her is Brandon.

These are few of my childhood photos which my mum passed it to me when i visited her over the weekends... My parents and siblings, we are very close to one another. Thanks mum and dad for bringing me into this beautiful World and also my two little lovely sis and bro that they have given me.

DAD, ME and MUM!

ME and MY SIS! we are 2 years apart...

Madeleines are French tea cakes baked in a shell-shaped mold. The batter are made with a combination of butter, sugar, eggs, flour, and are traditionally flavored with lemon or orange flower water. For me, i use lemon/orange zest. These small little cakes are often dipped in tea or coffee.

This is a modified recipe, yield abt 24 pcs. Here it is!

4 Eggs
160g Caster Sugar

200g Cake Flour
1tsp Baking Powder

200g melted butter (use unsalted)
Lemon / Orange zest (grated/chopped finely) – (I use about half of it. You can add more if you want)
1 tsp vanilla essence (optional)

1. Beat eggs & sugar in a mixing bowl till light & fluffy.
2. Add in sifted dry ingredients (flour + baking powder) and mix well.
3. Mix in melted butter and lemon/orange zest.
4. Pre-heat oven at 180C.
5. Lightly grease madeleines mould/pan and spoon batter 3/4 filled the mould/pan.
6. Bake for abt 15 mins till golden brown. *(10 mins at 180C and 5 mins at 160C)
7. Cool madeleines on tray.
